From Data to Action: Building Better Trauma Systems

IMPACT is a practical, highly interactive one-day trauma quality-improvement masterclass developed and delivered by Global Trauma Partnerships.

Designed for people who lead, support or contribute to trauma care, the course connects trauma data, clinical review, governance and improvement. Participants work through real-world scenarios to identify opportunities for improvement, understand contributing system factors and develop practical actions that can be applied within their own service.

More than 60% of the program is interactive. Participants will analyse data, investigate case scenarios, design an improvement initiative and leave with a practical 90-day action plan.

Course Description

Quality improvement is central to a high-performing trauma service, but meaningful change requires more than collecting data or discussing individual cases. It requires a structured approach that connects information, multidisciplinary review, action and evaluation.

IMPACT provides practical tools to help participants move from recognising an issue to designing, implementing and measuring sustainable improvement. The course draws on real-world trauma service experience and is suitable for services at different stages of development.

Target Audience

IMPACT is designed for multidisciplinary trauma professionals, including:

• Trauma program managers and coordinators
• Trauma nurses, clinical nurse consultants and nurse practitioners
• Trauma medical directors, surgeons and emergency or intensive care clinicians
• Fellows and registrars with trauma leadership interests
• Registry coordinators and data managers
• Quality, safety and governance professionals
• Allied health professionals involved in trauma care and rehabilitation

Learning Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

• Interpret trauma registry and performance information to identify improvement opportunities
• Conduct structured multidisciplinary trauma case reviews
• Distinguish system issues from individual events and identify contributing factors
• Develop a focused trauma quality-improvement initiative
• Select practical indicators to measure change and outcomes
• Use loop closure to demonstrate that improvement actions have been implemented and sustained
• Build a practical 90-day action plan for their own service
